About the Artist

Brazil's rich and colorful geographic diversity, along with its hodgepodge of cultures, makes it an intensely vibrant and diverse country. Add to this the electrifying sounds of Brazilian samba along with the unabashed infiltration of Afro-European cultural influences, and you have fertile ground for artistic expression.

It is only right that an artist emerges with an appetite for creative expression of the rich tapestry of Brazilian culture and history. However, beyond the cultural trends Soraiha was exposed to, her art was born out of personal hardships and adversities she faced as a woman growing up in Latin America's largest country.

Soraiha's upbringing and life can best be described as a constant barrage of trials and tribulations. She has lived alone since she was 19, and after the tragic loss of her sister, it became clear that her struggles led her to find refuge in her artwork. The expressive maturity of her palette leaves the viewer amazed, especially when we learn that she is self-taught.

The vibrantly colorful and introspective nature of her art offers us a visually compelling narrative. Much of her aesthetic appeal stems from her acute synesthesia, which manifests itself through numbers and colors. Soraiha sees colors in combination with numbers. This gift added a dimension of chromatic maturity to her artwork that is accompanied by a high level of ingenuity. Ingenuity is her driving force as an artistic pioneer.

The world remembers the innovators and not necessarily the imitators. Especially in the field of visual arts, there is nothing more valued and historically significant than a truly innovative artist. This becomes palpable in her more figurative work, which became part of her movement known as "Tropical Expressionism."

It may be because of her humanity or her natural talent that Soraiha's art stands out. However, one thing is certain, she has the potential to become a beacon for Latin American female artists. She may be the one who gives them a voice through her fearless command of color and bold expressionism.
